From March 24 to 26, Gu Yu, President of Wenshan University, led the University’s first official overseas delegation of 2026 on a five-member educational exchange visit to Tuyen Quang Province, Vietnam, traveling through the Tianbao border port in Malipo County. During the visit, the delegation visited Ha Giang Campus of Thai Nguyen University , the Tuyen Quang Training, Science and Entrepreneurship Center of Thai Nguyen University, Ha Giang Yingcai High School, and the Department of Education and the Tuyen Quang Provincial Department of Education and Training, successfully accomplishing the tasks of inter-university cooperation and international student recruitment.

The visit further clarified the orientation of inter-university cooperation. During the visit, the delegation and Ha Giang Campus of Thai Nguyen University reached a number of important understandings on the joint training of Chinese-language professionals, collaborative scientific research, and the co-hosting of academic conferences. Both sides agreed to promote the implementation of semester-based and academic-year-based joint training programs through a project-based and task-list-based mechanism. The delegation also coordinated with the Tuyen Quang Training, Science and Entrepreneurship Center of Thai Nguyen University on tailored cooperation in such areas as language competence improvement and agricultural technology research and development, and discussed relevant supporting measures for Chinese-language teaching.

The international student recruitment promotion activities were met with an enthusiastic response. The delegation hosted a themed presentation, “Study in China, Study at Wenshan University,” at Ha Giang Yingcai High School, where special Chinese-language classes have been established. Nearly 100 teachers and students attended the event. Relevant officials from the Tuyen Quang Provincial Department of Education and Training accompanied the delegation, and heads of local foreign language training institutions were invited to join the event. Through briefings on study-in-China policies, presentations on scholarship programs, and interactive on-site sessions, the delegation showcased the University’s distinctive educational features and comprehensive strengths in an all-round way. The event effectively aroused Vietnamese students’ enthusiasm for studying in China and laid a solid foundation for Wenshan University’s 2026 international student recruitment efforts.

The university-locality collaboration mechanism was further consolidated. During the visit, the delegation and the Tuyen Quang Provincial Department of Education and Training established a regular platform for exchange and cooperation, covering multiple areas such as teacher training and academic exchange. Meanwhile, Wenshan University also identified relevant measures to support the employment of Vietnamese international students, thereby promoting a shift from one-dimensional inter-university cooperation to deeper and more diversified university-locality collaboration.

This visit has further deepened educational and people-to-people exchanges between China and Vietnam, while opening up new channels for international student recruitment. Moving forward, Wenshan University will take this visit as an opportunity to advance the implementation of cooperation initiatives, further promote educational exchange and cooperation between China and Vietnam, actively serve the Belt and Road Initiative and Yunnan Province’s development strategy as a gateway to South and Southeast Asia, and fully demonstrate the mission and commitment of a border-region local university.
